L'Arche as a Service Provider

Today, L'Arche communities, in the USA live somewhat of a dual identity. We are communities of faith as well as licensed and accredited Medicaid service providers. Funding that goes to support our core member's health and safety come from county, state and federal sources and because of this L'Arche communities operate within the regulations, guidelines and oversight that comes with each.

How many homes does L'Arche Cleveland operate?

We operate four congregate setting homes with 24 hour support, serving fourteen core member's with developmental disabilities. L'Arche Cleveland owns two of our homes which are licensed by the state of Ohio and our other two are leased supported living homes—funding sources are the same. Keeping with L'Arche tradition all of the homes we operate have space for "live-in" assistants who receive room and board as part of their remuneration package.

How do people with a disability get welcomed into L'Arche Cleveland?

The people we welcome as core members must first be a part of the county board system. Secondly, they must be in the process of getting or already have a Medicaid Individual Options Waiver. Once an opening in a L'Arche Cleveland home occurs we notify the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities and then start receiving packets of individuals on the counties list waiting for placement. L'Arche communities strive to provide a home for life for their core members and because of this the time between openings can be long.

What are the types of services provided?

All of our homes have assistants on the premises 24/7. Assistants are there to support the core members in any of their daily activities in which help or guidance is required (homemaker/personal care). This includes things such as meal preparation, attending appointments/outings/church/recreation, home care and cleaning, medication administration, intimate care, skill development. We also manage core member finances as well as act as Social Security Representative Payee to some. We maintain each of their benefits and ensure they remain current. We are contracted to provide non-medical transportation services. We can also provide nursing services if needed. Assistants are also trained to assist with a wide range of physical disabilities as well.

L'Arche Cleveland is thankful to engage collaboratively with the following organizations, all of which add to the quality of life to Cleveland Ohio residents with a disability.
